Sake is a beverage fermented from rice, which is a grain.
Sake has a higher alcohol content than beer or wine but it is only slightly stronger than wine.
Its flavor-wise is closer to wine than beer, although it is indeed uniquely different from wine. Sake is a fermented brew which contains 13-16 % alcohol, but is not a distilled spirit.
In general, sake is not aged and is meant to be consumed soon after purchase. If kept cold and dark, it will last six months to a year without degradation in flavor.
In the U.S.A. Sake has been classified by the federal government as a beer because it is made of rice, a cereal. Check
